Lucinda Childs: A Portrait (1963–2016)
An evening of works created for the Lucinda Childs Dance Company over five decades. Works included Pastime (1963); the early silent pieces Katema (1978), Radial Courses (1976), and Interior Drama (1977); Concerto (1993) with music by Henryk Gorecki; an extract of Lollapalooza (2010) with music by John Adams, “Son of Chamber Symphony” Third Movement, and Canto Ostinato (2015) with music by composer Simeon ten Holt. Also featured on the program was a new piece entitled Into View, a collaboration with composers/instrumentalists Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld, best known for their work with Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and Belle Orchestre.
“Ms. Childs is revered across Europe as a grande dame of American dance. In the United States, though, her work is so rarely seen that she has assumed almost mythical status.”
