The Etudes in Concert

a multi-pianist evening of master piano works

The Etudes – Philip Glass’s most personal body of work – a self-portrait of a life’s practice, representing some of the most intimate and inventive music of his oeuvre. As Philip’s longtime creative producers, Pomegranate Arts curates an evening of the twenty piano etudes in their entirety performed by ten featured pianists, each bringing their own unique approach to their instrument and to Glass’s work. The result is an evening of master piano works for the 21st century – one that has sold out multiple performances at the Opera House at BAM, the Philharmonie de Paris, Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, and most recently at Walt Disney Concert Hall among many others. Each engagement of The Complete Etudes features a new combination of performers – bringing together beloved longtime Glass interpreters and surprise special guests – a diverse cohort of artists that has included Aaron Diehl, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Anton Batagov, Maki Namekawa, Timo Andres, Nico Muhly, Vikingur Ólafsson, Jason Moran, Jenny Lin, Dev Hynes, Lara Downes, Ursula Oppens, Christian Sands, and many others. This stunning evening allows these extraordinary artists to celebrate a singular body of work and to showcase their unique interpretations of this masterpiece.

The Etudes celebrates the release of our new special edition Philip Glass Piano Etudes (Artisan), a boxed set that includes the Complete Etudes 1-20 and a hardcover book Studies in Time: Essays on the Music of Philip Glass.
